
Course purpose
The ALTOZ Accelerated online Pharmacy Technician program offers a 3-month curriculum designed to prepare students to
successfully take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and for employment in most pharmacy settings, ranking from
community and hospital pharmacy to home health pharmacy.
Award Type: Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of completion including competencies
from each course within the curriculum.
Program Requirements
- Have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Interview with the Department Chair of the program.
- Apply and obtain a “ technician in training” card through the Texas State Board of Pharmacy that is issued for only two(2) years and is
not renewable. - Current Immunizations required for clinical rotation.
- CPR certification required for clinical rotation.
What does a Pharmacy Technician do and Possible Job Titles?
Pharmacy Technicians assist pharmacists in their job. In fact, they order and stock medications, receive, process and help dispensing
prescriptions. Pharmacy technicians provide information to patients and may perform many of the same duties as a pharmacist,
however, their work must be approved by a pharmacist before medication can be dispensed.
How much does a Pharmacy Technician make per year?
Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), pharmacy technicians earn on average an annual salary of $32,700 with top earners reaching
up to $47,000 per year.
Where does a Pharmacy Technician work?
Pharmacy technicians can work in retail, hospital, home health, mail order, and online pharmacies. They can also be used by Insurance
companies and government healthcare regulatory agencies.
